Leo ("The Face") Carlins was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 7, 1954. He began classical training on the
bass violin in 1967 at Delbarton School in Northwestern NJ. High school bandmates included
guitarist Bob Russell, a member of Black Oak Arkansas.
In 1972 he began attending Salisbury State College where he earned degrees in both
Geography and Elementary Education.
Leo has recorded with Donald Avery Hall and worked with former Great Train Robbery
members Rich DeSanzo and Ray Burzins'.
Recent projects have included work with traditional Delta Blues master Chris English and
smoky voiced jazz/blues singer Billie Stevens Carlins.
Leo's "walkin' the dog" style on the bass violin is as exciting to watch as it is to hear!
